J. K. Rowling ha dichiarato molte volte che i ricordi e gli "echi" della sua infanzia diventarono parte dei libri di Harry Potter. Due esempi ben noti sono:
L'uso del cognome dei suoi due amici d’infanzia, Ian e Vikki Potter.
E utilizzando un "Sistema di quattro casate scolastiche" ad Hogwarts, come nella sua scuola secondaria, Wyedean Comprehensive.
Ora, trovo JKR un autore piacevolmente preciso, che raramente fa degli errori o inserisce coincidenze nei libri. Mentre Mentre facevo una mappatura di Londra, ero preoccupato per l'uso del nome della strada "Vauxhall Road". Come indicato altrove, a Londra non esiste una tale strada e, per quanto ne so, non esisterà mai. JKR ha passato molti anni a lavorare a Londra, quindi è probabile che lo avrebbe saputo. Allora perché ha usato questo nome? Solo un errore? Oppure è un modo per “annebbiare” con l’intento di mascherare la vera posizione?
Ho cercato in alcuni Atlanti per trovare la vera "Vauxhall Roads", e nel Regno Unito sono riuscito a trovarne circa dodici. Ma uno mi suonava strano: "Vauxhall road, Cas-Gwent, NP6 5". Il nome gallese, mi sono ricordato, si riferiva alla città di Chepstow ... dove JKR ha trascorso gran parte della sua infanzia.
Un piano stradale di Chepstow ha mostrato una "Vauxhall Road", come previsto, e qualcos'altro di ancora più intrigante ... molte strade raggruppate insieme (denominate "Drive", "Walk", "Crescent" e "Road") con nomibotanici! Non c'è "Magnolia Road" o "Privet Drive", ma c'è una "Magnolia Close" e un "Drive Rowan"! E qui ce ne sono altri, tutti che sarebbero stati all'interno della "zona esplorativa" di una giovane Jo Rowling adolescente:
Maple Avenue
Laburnham Way
Hawthorn Close
Wirewoods Crescent
Sycamore Avenue
Bluebell Drive
... e molto vicino (forse la prossima strada) alla casa d'infanzia di JKR c’era "Elm Road".
Nessuno degli altri "Vauxhall Roads" nel Regno Unito ha questi tipi di nomi di strada vicino a loro. È del tutto possibile che il quartiere di Privet Drive ricordi il quartiere dell'infanzia di Rowling.

J. K. Rowling has stated many times that memories and "echoes" from her own childhood became part of the Harry Potter Books. Two well-known examples are:

Using a "School Four-House System" for Hogwarts, as there was in her own secondary school, Wyedean Comprehensive
Now, I find JKR a pleasingly precise author, who very rarely makes mistakes or allows factual clashes between the books. Whilst "mapping London" I was worred about the use of the street name "Vauxhall Road". As stated elsewhere, there is no such street in London and, as far as I can find out, there never has been. JKR spent several years working in London, so it is likely she would have known this. So why did she use this name? Just a mistake? Or an effort to provide more "fog" to mask "actual" locations?
I searched through atlases to find real "Vauxhall Roads", and in the UK I only managed to find about twelve. But one rang a strange bell: "Vauxhall road, Cas-Gwent, NP6 5". The Welsh name, I remembered, was referring to the town of Chepstow... which is where JKR spent much of her childhood.
A street-plan of Chepstow showed a "Vauxhall Road", sure enough, and something else, even more intriguing...many streets grouped together (termed "Drive", "Walk", "Crescent" and "Road") with botanical names! There is no "Magnolia Road" or "Privet Drive", but there is a "Magnolia Close" and a "Rowan Drive"! And here are some others, all of which would have been within the "exploring zone" of a young teenaged Jo Rowling:
Maple Avenue
Laburnham Way
Hawthorn Close
Wirewoods Crescent
Sycamore Avenue
Bluebell Drive
...and very close (perhaps the next street) to JKR's childhood home was "Elm Road".
None of the other "Vauxhall Roads" in the UK have these sorts of street names near them. It is entirely possible that the neighborhood of Privet Drive recalls the neighborhood of Rowling's childhood.
