I am primarily a trio shipper; by that I mean I enjoy reading and writing fics about various pairings of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. However, as far as reading goes, I will read pretty much any ship, even if I don't 'ship' it - with two exceptions: Harry/Ginny and Draco/Hermione. I tried to sit down and think about why I absolutely cannot read these two ships, and I think it's because they bother me on a very deep level. Draco/Hermione isn't a pairing I run across often, so I don't have any clear thoughts on it right now, but I do have plenty of thoughts on Harry/Ginny.
Part I - Why Harry/Ginny bothers me
Some rabid anti-Harry/Ginny shippers have said that they could tolerate a Harry/Ginny ship better after OP than they could before. I dislike it even more now than I did before. In my mind, Harry/Ginny sends a clear message to girls that "if you pine over a boy long enough, he'll eventually love you." I can't express how disturbing this is to me. Even though Ginny appears to have moved on in OP, I can remember many a crush I had on a boy at her age, and if said boy had decided to show interest in me, I'd have been hard-pressed to turn him down. Tarie brought up a good point in a conversation regarding this; Harry suddenly noticing Ginny now that she has moved on is actually quite demeaning to Ginny - it's like Ron's "oh, Neville's right, you are a girl!" comment to Hermione in GF22 but more hurtful as Harry is older at this point, with a little more experience with girls under his belt, and should know a bit better.
If JKR had shown Harry and Ginny developing an actual friendship, instead of him only knowing her as 'Ron's little sister', then I might view it differently. She's set up Harry and Hermione, or Ron and Hermione, or other possibilities, if you want to go there, as developing very close friendship with the potential to develop into more. But with Harry and Ginny, there has been infinitesimal development, and the final two books of a seven book series is simply not enough time to develop it. It took three books to resolve Harry's crush on Cho, for example. There have been plenty of opportunities for JKR to develop a friendship between Harry and Ginny. They are in the same House, Harry stays at her house a great deal in the summer, and they both like Quidditch. I actually found it very hard to swallow that Harry's known her all this time and not known that she likes and is good at Quidditch. Have they not had impromptu Quidditch games at the Burrow before?
The other thing that bothers me is the events in the Chamber of Secrets. Harry (nor anyone else as far as I can tell, but that's another story in itself) has ever given a second thought to Ginny's experience in the Chamber save for a brief mention in OP when Harry was feeling sorry for himself. We all know that Harry's extremely self-centered, (and to me, that's understandable given that he hasn't been raised in an environment where he would learn to have any sort of empathy for the feelings of another), but for him never to consider the effect of Ginny's possession by his nemesis is ridiculous. Perhaps JKR is deliberately avoiding them discussing this so that they can bond over it later, but this seems contrived that they never talked about it at the time it happens. I find it extremely unlikely that a boy would fight a giant snake and destroy a possessed diary, almost dying in the process, to save his best friend's sister, and then never say a word about it to her or to either of his best friends. Not a single word. In later books, it is almost as if the events of book two never even happened. Harry almost never thinks about those events unless someone else brings them up first.
Not only that, but Ginny never approaches Harry to say "Hey, thanks for saving my life. You almost got killed down there, and I appreciate you sticking out your neck for me." Of course she wouldn't have done that right away, but at some point in the following three years there could have been a moment for that. She could have even sent him a note! And surely the spunky, outgoing, self-confident Ginny we saw in OP would have no problem saying such a thing to Harry even if he was being a moody punk. It's almost as if she takes his rescue of her for granted. I find it incredibly hard to believe that they could go through such a dramatic, life-changing experience and not speak of it to each other for over two years.
When the subject of the diary is finally brought up in OP, it is skimmed by with such carelessness that I almost missed it. If JKR is setting up a Harry/Ginny relationship, she missed a tremendous opportunity for it in OP23. The part where Ginny snaps at Harry - "Well, that was a bit stupid of you," said Ginny angrily, "seeing as how you don't know anyone but me who's been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels." - lasts for less than a page. Harry still hardly thinks about her experience at all. He doesn't really reflect on it; he simply has his typical 'oh' reaction and moves on. This would have been the perfect time to have Ginny make some sort of comment that changes Harry's attitude or mood slightly, foreshadowing some future relationship development, but not a thing.
Given this, I feel that if JKR is truly going for a Harry/Ginny relationship, she has set it up very poorly. Harry is the main focus of this series, and whoever his eventual love interest may be, it should be someone who is developed at least as much as his best friends are. Ginny has not been developed in that manner. This leads me to wonder - if Ginny's purpose is not 'hero's love interest', then what is her purpose other than 'hero's best friend's sister?'
Part II - What I think Ginny's real role in the series is
To me, there is an odd and disturbing parallel between MWPP and the Trio+Ginny. The Trio doesn't include Ginny in their expeditions (save OP, and then only reluctantly), Harry doesn't confide in Ginny the way he confides in Ron and Hermione, and he doesn't think of her near as often as he does Ron and Hermione. Think of how Peter was described by the teachers in the Three Broomsticks in PA10 - as a tagalong. He was their friend, but he wasn't as much a part of the group as Remus, Sirius, and James were. They trusted him enough to include him in the Animagus transformation, but obviously had little respect for him, considering their actions in the Pensieve scene in OP. Ginny is Harry, Ron, and Hermione's friend - apparently very close to Hermione though we've not really seen this until OP - but Ron and Harry hardly give her the time of day. Ron only seems to pay attention to her when it concerns her choice of boyfriends or Yule Ball dates.
If you wanted to draw a parallel between the two generations, keeping in mind that any generational parallels are imperfect, you could do it as such:
James - Harry (obviously)
Sirius - Ron
(loud, rash, impulsive, tempermental - and Harry and Ron are often in trouble as Sirius and James were)
Remus - Hermione
(he was close to Sirius and James, but it seemed that Sirius and James were the closer friends, just as Hermione is close to Harry and Ron but they're closer to each other. Hermione is often the moderating influence on Harry and Ron, just as Dumbledore hoped Remus would be on Sirius and James when he made Remus prefect)
Peter - Ginny
Before OP I remember many people putting Neville in Peter's place when drawing parallels between MWPP and the Trio. I think now though, considering Ginny's more active, but still not crucial role in OP, she fits neatly into Peter's role. The tagalong who they trust but don't 'include'. Peter clearly idolizes James, that much is obvious from 'Snape's Worst Memory'. Sirius even commented on it - just as Ron (and Fred) comments on Ginny's very obvious crush on Harry in book two.
Compare these passages from CS and OP28 (keeping in mind the age differences at the time):
(CS3) - "Ginny," said Ron in an undertone to Harry. "My sister. She's been talking about you all summer."
"Yeah, she'll be wanting your autograph, Harry," Fred said with a grin, but he caught his mother's eye and bent his face over his plate without another word.
(CS3) - "Ginny," said Ron. "You don't know how weird it is for her to be this shy. She never shuts up normally--"
(OP28) "Put that away, will you? said Sirius finally, as James made a fine catch and Wormtail let out a cheer. "Before Wormtail wets himself from excitement."
(CS4) - The moment she saw Harry, Ginny accidentally knocked her porridge bowl to the floor with a loud clatter. Ginny seemed very prone to knocking things over whenever Harry entered a room. She dived under the table to retrieve the bowl and emerged with her face glowing like the setting sun. Pretending he hadn't noticed this, Harry sat down and took the toast Mrs Weasley offered him.
(OP28, pg 644) - James was still playing with the Snitch, letting it zoom farther and farther away, almost escaping but always grabbed at the last second. Wormtail was watching him with his mouth open. Every time James made a particularly difficult catch, Wormtail gasped and applauded.
I've also seen people slot Percy in this role, but in my opinion Percy is too obvious a choice for the traitor role. I believe Percy is a red herring, both because he is obvious and also because he isn't close enough to Harry (or his family either at this point) to know anything of use to Voldemort - and that it will be Ginny who ultimately betrays Harry for whatever reason. She is close enough to Harry and her Order-involved family members to actually have somewhat useful information. This cannot be said about Luna or Neville, the only other cohort characters that Harry seems to trust. In addition, the only possible reason that I can see for JKR delaying any sort of resolution of the events of book two is if Ginny is harboring some residual resentment - perhaps she is angry and resentful that no one has seemed to care about her experience with Tom Riddle and the diary (and rightly so). She could also be resentful of the fact that while she and Hermione appear to be close, Hermione seems to be closer to Harry and Ron. Harry, the boy she's crushed on for years, and Ron, the brother closest in age to her, both of whom constantly brush her off and tell her to go away.
You could expand this further with a Snape - Draco parallel, and also Lily - Luna or Lily - Neville, but that's a bit blurry and I'm not sure how that would quite play out. We don't really know enough about Luna at this point to know what her purpose is; it's possible that we'll learn about another MWPP-era character that will give us more insight into events in that generation. We also need to know more about why Snape turned against Voldemort, and why Peter turned against James and Lily, but I do feel that JKR is drawing a very clear parallel between the two generations, and if there is a betrayer in one, there must be a betrayer in another.

Parte 1- Perché Harry/Ginny mi infastidisce
Alcuni anti Harry / Ginny hanno detto che avrebbero potuto tollerare un Harry / Ginny dopo HP OdF che prima. A me piace ancora di più ora che prima. Nella mia mente, Harry / Ginny manda un chiaro messaggio alle ragazze che "se vi struggete per un ragazzo abbastanza a lungo, lui alla fine si innamora di voi". Non posso esprimere quanto questo mi disturbi . Anche se Ginny sembra essersi spostata su HP OdF, mi ricorda molto una cotta che avevo per un ragazzo alla sua età, e se il ragazzo aveva deciso di mostrare interesse per me, sarei stata in difficoltà nel respingerlo. Tarie si è focalizzata su buon punto in una conversazione riguardo questa coppia; Harry improvvisamente nota Ginny ora che lei è andata avanti ma è in realtà abbastanza umiliante per Ginny, è come " Neville ha ragione, sei una ragazza" dice a Hermione in HP CF, 22 ma è più doloroso in quanto Harry è più vecchio, a questo punto, con un po 'più di esperienza con le ragazze e dovrebbe conoscerle un po' meglio.
Se JKR avesse mostrato lo sviluppo di un’amicizia vera tra Harry e Ginny, invece di lui che la conosce solo come "sorellina di Ron", allora avrei potuto vederla in modo diverso. Ma con Harry e Ginny, c'è stato uno sviluppo minimo , e gli ultimi due libri di una serie di sette non è semplicemente abbastanza per svilupparlo. Ci sono voluti tre libri per risolvere la cotta di Harry per Cho, per esempio. Ci sono state un sacco di opportunità per JKR.com per sviluppare un’amicizia tra Harry e Ginny. Sono nella stessa Casa, Harry rimane a casa sua in estate, ed entrambi amano il Quidditch. In realtà ho trovato molto difficile da digerire che Harry l’abbia conosciuta in tutto questo tempo e non sa di piacerle e che è brava nel Quidditch. Non hanno avuto improvvisate partite di Quidditch alla Tana prima?
L'altra cosa che mi preoccupa sono gli eventi nella Camera dei Segreti. Harry (né nessun altro, per quanto posso dire, ma questa è un'altra storia in sé) ha mai dato un secondo pensiero all'esperienza di Ginny nella Camera salvo una breve menzione in HP OdF quando Harry si sentiva dispiaciuto nei confronti di se stesso. Sappiamo tutti che Harry è estremamente egocentrico, (e per me, questo è comprensibile dato che non è stata allevato in un ambiente in cui si sarebbe imparato ad avere empatia con i sentimenti di un altro), ma che lui non considera l'effetto del possesso di Ginny da parte della sua nemesi è ridicolo. Forse JKR.com sta deliberatamente evitando loro di discutere di questo in modo che possano legare più avanti, ma sembra strano che non abbiano mai parlato dell’accaduto subito dopo che successe. Trovo estremamente improbabile che un ragazzo avrebbe combattuto un serpente gigante e distrutto un diario posseduto, quasi morente , per salvare la sorella del suo migliore amico, e poi mai dire una parola a lei o ad uno dei suoi migliori amici. Non una sola parola. Nei libri successivi, è quasi come se gli eventi del secondo libro non fossero mai accaduti. Harry quasi mai pensa a quegli eventi, a meno che qualcun altro non li affronti per primo.
Non solo, ma Ginny non si avvicina a Harry per dire "Ehi, grazie per avermi salvato la vita. Sei quasi morto laggiù, e apprezzo che hai rischiato per me". Certo che non l'avrebbe fatto subito, ma a un certo punto nei tre anni successivi ci avrebbe potuto essere un momento per questo. Avrebbe potuto anche inviargli una nota! E sicuramente la Ginny coraggiosa e sicura di sé che abbiamo visto in HP OdF non avrebbe alcun problema a dire una cosa simile a Harry, anche se fosse un punk lunatico. E 'quasi come se lei desse il suo salvataggio per scontato. Trovo incredibilmente difficile credere che potessero passare attraverso un tale dramma, un'esperienza che cambia la vita e non parlarne tra di loro per oltre due anni.
Quando il soggetto del diario è finalmente cresciuto in HP 5, è scremato con tanta disattenzione che mi sono quasi persa. Se JKR.com ha creato un rapporto di Harry / Ginny, ha perso una grande opportunità per esso in HP OdF,23. La parte in cui Ginny scatta contro Harry - "Beh,sei stato proprio stupido”replicò Ginny arrabbiata, “visto che io sono l’unica persona che conosci che è stata posseduta da Tu-Sai-Chi e posso dirti cosa si prova”,dura meno di una pagina. Harry pensa ancora poco circa l’esperienza a tutti. Lui in realtà non riflette, ha semplicemente la sua tipica reazione "oh" e va avanti. Questo sarebbe stato il momento perfetto per vedere Ginny fare una sorta di commento che cambia l'atteggiamento di Harry o stato d'animo , prefigurando un futuro sviluppo delle relazioni, ma niente.
Detto questo, credo che se JKR.com stesse veramente andando verso un rapporto Harry / Ginny, l’ha configurato molto male. Harry è il protagonista di questa serie, e chi potrebbe essere il suo eventuale interesse amoroso, dovrebbe essere qualcuno che si sviluppa almeno tanto quanto i suoi migliori amici lo sono stati. Ginny non è stata sviluppato in tale modo. Questo mi porta a chiedermi - se lo scopo di Ginny non è "interesse amoroso per l’eroe", allora qual è il suo scopo se non"sorella del migliore amico del protagonista”?
Parte II - quello che penso sia il vero ruolo di Ginny nella serie
Per me, c'è un parallelo strano e inquietante tra MWPP (una fan fiction) e il Trio + Ginny. Il Trio non comprende Ginny nelle loro spedizioni (salvo HP OdF, e solo a malincuore), Harry non confida in Ginny come confida in Ron e Hermione, e lui non la vede vicina come vede vicini Ron e Hermione. Pensate a come Peter è stato descritto dagli insegnanti al Tre Manici di Scopa in HP PdA,10 - come un ragazzino che corre sempre dietro gli altri. Era loro amico, ma lui non era tanto parte del gruppo come lo erano Remus, Sirius e James . La fiducia era sufficiente per includerlo nella trasformazione Animagus, ma evidentemente avevano poco rispetto per lui, considerando le loro azioni nella scena del Pensatoio in HP OdF. Ginny è amica di Harry, Ron, e Hermione - a quanto pare molto vicino a Hermione se non abbiamo davvero visto questo fino a HP OdF - ma Ron e Harry difficilmente darle tempo. Ron sembra solo prestare attenzione a lei quando riguarda la scelta del fidanzato o il Ballo del Ceppo.
Se si vuole fare un parallelo tra le due generazioni, tenendo presente che eventuali parallelismi generazionali sono imperfetti, si potrebbe fare così:
James-Harry (ovviamente),
Sirius, Ron (forte, avventati, impulsivo, di umore variabile- e Harry e Ron sono spesso in difficoltà come Sirius e James lo erano)
Remus-Hermione (lui era vicino a Sirius e James, ma sembrava che Sirius e James fossero amici più stretti, proprio come Hermione si trova vicino a Harry e Ron, ma loro sono più vicini . Hermione è spesso l'influenza moderatrice su Harry e Ron, proprio come Silente sperava Remus sarebbe stato su Sirius e James quando Remus divenne prefetto)
Peter-Ginny. Prima del quinto libro mi ricordo che molte persone mettevano Neville al posto di Peter nelle elaborazione parallele tra MWPP e il Trio. Penso che ora, però, considerando Ginny più attiva, ma il ruolo non ancora determinante , si inserisca perfettamente nel ruolo di Peter. Il ragazzino che si fidano, ma non "include". Peter idolatra chiaramente James, questo è evidente da " Il peggior ricordo di Piton". Sirius ha anche commentato su di lui - proprio come Ron (e Fred) fanno osservazioni sulla cotta molto evidente di Ginny per Harry nel secondo libro .
Confrontate questi passaggi da HP CS e HP OdF,28 (tenendo conto delle differenze del periodo):
(HP CS,3) “È Ginny”disse Ron sottovoce a Harry. “Mia sorella. Non ha fatto altro che parlare di te tutta l’estate”
(HP CS,3) “È Ginny”disse Ron “È strano che sia così timida. Di solito non sta mai zitta….”
(HP OdF,28) “Mettilo via,dai”sbottò finalmente Sirius,mentre James eseguiva un’abile presa e Codaliscia strillava eccitato “Prima che il nostro amico se la faccia addosso”
(HP CS,4) Nel vedere Harry,Ginny rovesciò fragorosamente la sua ciotola di porridge: sembrava che la ragazzina tendesse a far cadere qualcosa ogni volta che Harry entrava in una stanza. Si infilò sotto il tavolo per recuperare la ciotola e riemerse rossa come il sole al tramonto. Facendo finta di non essersi accorto di niente,Harry si sedette e prese il toast che mamma Weasley gli porgeva.
(HP OdF,pag.602) James continuava a giocare con il Boccino: lasciava che si allontanasse sempre di più e lo riacchiappava all’ultimo secondo. Codaliscia lo fissava a bocca aperta,trattenendo il fiato e applaudendo a ogni presa particolarmente difficile.
Avrei visto persone come Percy in questo ruolo, ma a mio parere Percy è troppo evidente come scelta per il ruolo di traditore. Credo che Percy sia una falsa pista, sia perché è scontato sia anche perché non è abbastanza vicino a Harry (o la sua famiglia sia ) per non sapere nulla su Voldemort, e che sarà Ginny che alla fine tradisce Harry per qualsiasi motivo. Lei è abbastanza vicina a Harry e ai familiari membri dell’ Ordine per avere effettivamente le informazioni in qualche modo utili. Questo non può essere detto su Luna o Neville, gli unici altri personaggi di cui Harry sembra fidarsi. Inoltre, l'unica ragione possibile che posso vedere per JKR.com di ritardare qualsiasi tipo di risoluzione degli eventi del secondo libro è che Ginny stia covando qualche risentimento, forse residuo: lei è arrabbiata e risentita che nessuno sia sembrato preoccupato per la sua esperienza con Tom Riddle e il diario (e giustamente). Poteva anche essere risentita del fatto che mentre lei e Hermione sembrano essere vicine, Hermione sembra essere più vicina a Harry e Ron. Harry, il ragazzo per il quale ha avuto una cotta per anni, e Ron, il fratello più vicino in età per lei, entrambi i quali costantemente la liquidano dicendole di andare via.
Si potrebbe ampliare ulteriormente facendo un parallelismo tra Piton-Draco ,e anche Lily-Luna o Lily-Neville, ma questo è un pò sfocata e io non sono sicura di come si potrebbe giocare. Noi non sappiamo abbastanza su Luna, per sapere quale sia il suo scopo : è possibile che conoscere un altro personaggio dell’era MWPP ci darà un quadro più chiaro degli eventi di quella generazione. Abbiamo anche bisogno di sapere di più sul perché Piton si voltò contro Voldemort, e perché Peter si voltò contro James e Lily, ma mi sento di dire che JKR sta disegnando un chiaro parallelismo tra le due generazioni, e se c'è un traditore in uno, ci deve essere un traditore in un altro.
